The Federal Government is set to establish another grazing reserve in the Nono district of Yalmatu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, in collaboration with the state government.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Muhammad Getado, disclosed this at a meeting with officials of the state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, on Thursday.

Gettado said that the new 100-hectare grazing reserve would consist of solar and motorised boreholes, clinics for both humans and animals, a milk collection centre, and a hay growing field for animal feed, among other facilities.

He assured that the new grazing reserve would not undermine the gains so far recorded in the Wawa-Zange grazing reserve, but would further bolster livestock production in the state.

“The establishment of the reserve is aimed at consolidating on the gains so far recorded in the national livestock transformation programme,” he said.

The commissioner expressed the Gov. Inuwa Yahaya-led administration's commitment to the smooth implementation of the federal government’s livestock transformation agenda in the state.

He also said that plans had reached an advanced stage to commence vaccination of livestock in the state.

Gettado appealed to members of the association in the state to be vigilant in maintaining peace and security by reporting any strange or suspicious movement within their vicinity to security agencies.

The Chairman of the association, Modibbo Yahaya, thanked the governor for being steadfast toward the welfare of his members in the state.

“The establishment of Nono grazing reserve is another step in the right direction. To me, herders have never had it this good in Gombe State.

While appreciating the federal government, Yahaya said that action should be expedited toward inaugurating the facilities at Wawa-Zange grazing reserve.
