The Nigerian Army 33 Artillery Brigade, Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi has trained 450 personnel and civilians on emotional intelligence.

This is contained in a statement by Lt. Sarah Barka of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR), made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Bauchi.

She said that the training was part of the events organised to mark Nigerian Independence Day at the Shadawanka Barracks.

Barka said that the training was on Emotional Intelligence and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), delivered by Dr Ehiz-Odigie Okpataku.

“The participants consisted of officers, soldiers and Youth Corps members, Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) and Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA).

The lectures focused on emotional intelligence and substance abuses and it was packaged for the youth in the Barracks.

Barka said that the lecture would increase one’s ability to make sound decisions, build and sustain collaborative relationships, deal effectively with stress.

It would as well enable them to cope with a greater degree with constant changes in one’s life.

“It will enable individuals to perform well in the workplace and also in accomplishing various other goals and objectives in his or her life,” she said.

Barka explained that the programme commenced on Sept. 25 with Interdenominational Service at St Michael’s Catholic Church.

It ended with route march in early morning Sept. 30 and was followed by special Jumma’at prayer at the shadawanka barracks mosque.
