President Muhammadu Buhari on the 7th of October 2022, presented the 2023 budget proposal of over 20.51trillion naira to a joint session of the national assembly.

The figure however conflicts the 19.76 trillion naira approved by both Chambers after the medium term expenditure framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper exercise conducted by the finance committees of the senate and the House of Representatives.

The figure was 750 billion naira higher than what they approved.

Benjamin Kalu, who briefed members of the House of Representatives press corps after the budget presentation said both Chambers would take a critical look at the new figure and find reasons behind the increment before passing it into law.
