The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Alhassan Aminu, said he would deal decisively with political thugs and anyone caught disrupting the peace during political campaigns.
Aminu gave the warning at a news conference shortly after his assumption of office on Tuesday in Bauchi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aminu, who takes over from Umar Sanda, is the 44th commissioner of police posted to the state.
“It is imperative to reiterate our stance that any form of electoral disorderliness, violent behaviours, disruption of campaign rallies.
“Display of dangerous weapons or any illegal objects during campaign procession or electoral processes will not be condoned.
“Anyone found wanting directly or indirectly connected with such acts will be arrested and brought to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.
According to him, the command will partner all security agencies and relevant stakeholders to prevent crime in the state and intervene in community problems.
Aminu pledged to integrate key elements of modern crime control and conflict management into his policing strategy.
The commissioner of police warned private security companies and vigilance groups to keep away from political campaigns and the forthcoming general elections.
“With no exceptions, any state-owned security or private quasi-security outfits planning to partake in providing security at campaigns or during elections should keep away as they have no role in the Electoral Act.
“By the grace of Almighty Allah, we shall collectively surmount and deal with the emerging security challenges in tune with the Inspector-General of Police’s vision and mission,” he said.
