The Anambra Fire Service says it has averted a fire disaster from a fallen diesel tanker in Ogbunike, on Onitsha-Enugu Expressway.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director/Fire Chief of Anambra Fire Services, Mr. Martin Agbili, and made available to newsmen in Onitsha.
According to the statement, at about 1:45 p. m., Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of a fallen 33,000 liters tanker while diverting to Ndumore Oil & Gas Filling Station along Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, between toll gate and slaughter, Ogbunike.
“Immediately, we deployed our fire trucks and firefighters to the incident scene which caused heavy traffic at the Expressway.
“We thank God that the supposed fire outbreak which would have emanated from it was averted, and there was no loss of life,” it said.
The statement attributed the cause of the accident to loss of control by the tanker driver.
It noted that the quick and timely response and the use of its chemical foam compound prevented a fire outbreak and they were able to save lives and public property around the area.
