Governing Council approves HYPPADEC community development projects

The HYPPADEC Governing Council Projects Monitoring Committee has expressed satisfaction with the execution of capital projects in some parts of state by the commission.

The council commended the commission in a statement issued in Minna by Nura Wakil, the Head of Press Affairs of the commission on Monday .

The projects are located in Sabuke Primary School, Borgu Local Government Are, Tatabu Community, Mokwa, Kuchi Enagi, Edati, Etsu-Tasha Community, Edati, Lagun Community, Lavun, Kwatache and Egbanti in Katcha and Jebba in Mokwa Local Government Area, among others

The committee led by Prof. Saleh Kanam inspected both the ongoing and completed projects such as solar powered boreholes, solar street lights, blocks of three classrooms, office and toilets, as well as HYPPADEC Youth Transformation centres.

Prof. Kanam said that inspecting the projects was as good as executing them.

“We have to ensure that the said projects are carried out in the right place and that the right people are benefitting from it in the right way.

“We equally encouraged the communities to take ownership and ensure sustainability of these projects as there are too many demands for services with little resources for government to provide such services”, he said in the statement.

He said “the committee is satisfied with most of the projects visited with rooms for improvement at some project sites but what is most important is the quantum of encomiums and appreciation in all the communities visited.

“It sounds fulfilling to know that your target beneficiaries are really benefitting from the projeets strategically located to address their challenges”.

The team also visited the traditional leaders in some of the communities to pay homage where they advocated for ownership and maintenance of the projects for sustainability.

The statement said that the traditional leaders expressed appreciations for the development brought to them.

The statement said that the village head of Lagun community were a block of three classrooms, an office and VIP toilets were constructed described the commission’s intervention as moral booster for parents and pupils in the pursuit of education.

It also said that the community also benefitted from other interventions from the commission such as Youth Transmission Programme, NECO Examination, fertiliser and water projects among others.

It noted that he requested for more intervention from the commission.

Nda-etsu Usuman, the village head of Danko Community, Lavun Local Government Area where a solar powered borehole is installed, said the community had been facing alot of pipe-borne water challenges but with this intervention, those challenges have come to an end.

“I am short of words to express how much gratitude we are for you people, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa is God send to us and we are extremely grateful and look forward to more projects” the statement quoted him as saying.

It said that the Managing Director Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, Abubakar Yelwa, assured the communities of more interventions within the capacity of the commission and expressed satisfaction with strategic citing of most of the projects.

He said that the commission would provide furnitures for primary schools and hand pumps for all the schools constructed and promised specific interventions to some communities to address their pressing challenges.
