The World Bank, Adolescent Girls Initiative and Empowerment (AGILE) is to construct 75 Junior Secondary and 55 Senior secondary schools in the state.

The state team leads on social norms and communication, Hajiya Halima Tukur, disclosed this on Tuesday in Kano during the International Day of Education organized by the AGILE project, and the Kano Ministry of Education.

Tukur explained that the project, which was a collaboration of the Federal Ministry of Education and the World Bank, had vital components to improve girls' education.

According to her, the aim of the project is to reduce the challenges of girls' education, which was noticeable in the overall school attendance of girls.

She highlighted that the state government had provided all the necessary assistance to ensure the success of the project on girls’ education.

The team leader added that the event was organized to emphasize the importance of Girl child education to the development of society.

” No sane society will progress without education and AGILE is here to make a change,” she said.

Earlier, Kano State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ya’u Yan’shana, charged teachers to redouble their efforts in discharging their responsibilities to move education to international standards.

Represented by the Executive Secretary, of Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSMB), Dr. Bello Shehu, said the government had mapped out policies and programs aimed at boosting education.

He said that the project included free and compulsory education, inclusive education, and teacher policy, among others.

The commissioner said AGILE was an initiative that had boosted students' academic performance and charged them to be good ambassadors by utilizing their potential to become journalists, teachers, medical doctors, engineers, and professionals.

Yan’shana commended World Bank for the initiative which had yielded positive results for the state’s education sector.

“A lot has been done by the state government and we are going to record more achievements in Kano,” he explained.

Also speaking, the Chairman of, the State-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Kano state, Alhaji Tijjani Baraya, said the committee had sourced interventions of almost N1 billion naira in the state.

He appealed to the state government, to ensure the timely release of funds budgeted to the education sector, to achieve the desired objectives.

Some of the students who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that AGILE had provided toilets, water, and other learning and instructional materials to their schools.
