The Dingle Uboh clan of the Mayah community in the Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa has appealed to the state government to investigate the causes of the clashes between it and the Wanela Wagowang clan.
Mr. Hebron Chindo, spokesman of the community made the plea at a press conference in Yola on Thursday.
He said that the recent clashes on February 5 and 7, had resulted in eight casualties and over 100 women and children rendered homeless.
“We decided to speak out with the hope that our fervent cries for justice will be amplified.
“As peace-loving people, we are compelled to seek the intervention of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state, to constitute a panel to investigate the root causes of the crisis.
“And penalize anyone found guilty irrespective of position, wealth, and other differences, as well as end the crisis, for us to live in peace and harmony”, Chindo said.
According to him, their investigation revealed that some influential people are behind the crisis, hence the need for the government to quickly intervene and address the problem.
When contacted, SP Suleiman Nguroje, spokesman of Adamawa Police Command, confirmed the recent clashes involving the communities.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sikiru Akande had ordered an investigation into the matter and appealed to the people to be calm and cooperate with the police.
