Election: We’ll ensure speedy announcement of results – Plateau REC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Plateau, Dr Oliver Agundu, has assured the electorates of speedy collation and timely release of the governorship result in the state.

Agundu gave the assurance during his tour of some local government areas(LGAs) in the state to ensure the smooth running of the exercise.

He said unnecessary delays which brought about mistrust during the Presidential and National Assembly elections, had been addressed to ensure that the commission delivered the best election recorded in the state.

“I want to assure the people of the state that the commission will ensure that results are speedily collated and announced.

“We experienced delay in the commencement of the last election that was why the announcement was also delayed but this election started very early and would finish early as well.

“I do not expect that there should be any delay; I believe that collation should begin early tomorrow, March 19,” he said.

Agundu regretted that the commission recorded little set backs in some LGAs, where election materials were mixed up.

“The election materials for Barkin Ladi LGA were taken to Kanam LGA and that of Kanam to Barkin Ladi; but we have since switched them back to the appropriate places.

“I have been told that election has started in the areas and should also finish in good time.

Agundu charged voters who were yet to vote to go out and exercise their civic rights urging them that their votes would count.

He commended the people of the state for conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during the elections.
