The Sokoto state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says it is collaborating with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other agencies to enforce traffic rules and regulations during Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Mr Kabir Yusuf-Nadabo, FRSC Sector Commander, Sokoto State command, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by Mr Usman Bidemi, the FRSC Deputy Route Commander, in the state.
According to Yusuf-Nadabo, it is an established fact that the Eid-el-Fitr period is characterized by an upsurge in human and vehicular movements on highways.
“This is characterized on or before the day of Sallah which may result to traffic congestion and incessant road traffic crashes that may be attributed to risky behavioral traits of some careless drivers.
“To this end, FRSC Sokoto Sector Command, in collaboration with NEMA, SEMA, Red Cross, and other security agencies in Sokoto, is embarking on Eid-el-Fitr Sallah Special Patrol operation.
“This operation, which will last till April 26, is with a view to ensuring prompt rescue operation, decongestion of any traffic gridlocks and also to enforce traffic rules and regulation.
“Moreover, to achieve a hitch-free Sallah celebration in Sokoto, the Command has mobilized about 650 personnel; comprising both FRSC regular and Special Marshals, NEMA, SEMA and Red Cross and Sokoto marshal Agency,” he said.
He added that five patrol vehicles, one ambulance and one tow truck have also been deployed to strategic locations within the State to ensure safer roads and free flow of traffic throughout the Sallah period.
He warned that the Command will not hesitate to arrest any erring motorist suspected to have committed any traffic offence and prosecute any person responsibly suspected to have violated any traffic rules and regulations.
