Labour Party.Retired Colonel Chinyere Obi, a former member of the Labour Party, opened up about her harrowing experience during the general elections when she sustained a gunshot wound allegedly from suspected political thugs.

She shared her ordeal with journalist with our reporter in her Army Estate, Kurudu resident weekend expressing her disappointment at being abandoned by the party she had dedicatedly supported.
 
Colonel Obi narrated that during the House of Assembly election, she noticed irregularities at her polling unit where the INEC officials reportedly tampered with votes in favor of the APC instead of the Labour Party.
 
When she intervened and defended the LP agent against thugs, she was shot in the leg by one of the attackers.
 
Despite making significant contributions to the party’s campaign efforts, she claimed to have been neglected by the LP and Peter Obi after the incident.
 
In the aftermath of the attack, the lack of support from the party and the state government left her disillusioned.
 
Colonel Obi revealed that she had spent a considerable amount on campaign activities, including contributing to Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign alongside Peter Obi.
 
 However, she claimed that after the elections, neither Atiku nor Obi appreciated her efforts.
 
To make matters worse, she faced financial difficulties due to the cost of treating her gunshot wound and being diabetic. She sold her belongings, including a Honda Pilot SUV, to cover the hospital bills and sustain herself. 
 
Colonel Obi expressed her disappointment at the LP leadership, accusing them of misusing funds and failing to show empathy.
 
When asked about her future political affiliations, she expressed confusion and exhaustion, ruling out support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to perceived risks.
 
 However, she expressed admiration for Bola Tinubu, claiming she would gladly support him if he reached out to her.
 
Colonel Obi called for increased security during the upcoming governorship election in Imo State to prevent violence and ensure a free and fair process. 
 
She rated past governors’ performances and expressed her disillusionment with the current state of governance in Imo State compared to the legacy of Sam Mbakwe.
 
Despite her passion for a better Nigeria, Colonel Obi stated that she had no intentions of seeking any elective position in politics. 
 
She expressed a deep desire to join her children in London if her financial situation allowed for it, citing strained relationships with her children due to her experiences with the LP.
 
Overall, Colonel Chinyere Obi’s account sheds light on the challenges and sacrifices some individuals face in the pursuit of political ideals, revealing the complexities and hardships that can be encountered in the political landscape of Nigeria.
