Malam Asheik Jingir, the National Chairman Council of Ulama Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) has called on Muslim and Christian leaders to preach and encourage accountability and transparency through faith-based intervention.

Jingir made the call at the end of a National quarterly Tafsir held in Bauchi on Sunday.

“Religious leaders must be involved in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

”We must support government to strengthen the fight against corruption to get out of the hardship in the country,” he said.

The cleric said corruption has bedeviled all sectors of government, personal business among other engagements in the society.

“We have to contribute towards stopping corruption and repent too,” Jingir said.

He called on the government to improve the nation’s infrastructure and improve salaries of workers.

“If the government will not improve their salaries, welfare and other entitlements, corruption will not go away in this country,” Jingir said.

JIBWIS, is a Salafi movement originally established in Northern Nigeria to fight what it sees as the bid’ah practiced by the Sufi brotherhoods.

It is one of the largest Sunni societies in Nigeria, Chad, Ghana, Niger and Cameroon.

Jibwis was established in 1978 in Jos by Sheikh Ismaila Idris(1930-2000).
