Lawyers Applaud Senate Confirmation of EFCC Chair

Lawyers under the aegis of the League of Patriotic Lawyers have hailed the confirmation of Barr—Olukoyede as the new chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The lawyers under the leadership of barrister Abubakar Yesufu, a lawyer of long-standing repute commended the Senate for a thorough job, He said the commission under Olukayode was going to have a human face unlike in the past.

He said the new chair would take the commission to the next level by ensuring that crimes can be preempted thereby reducing the arduous task of prosecution, conviction and recoveries that is often involved in the beleaguered attempt to sanitize the country of corrupt practice.

The boss of the league also commended President Bola Tinubu for the appointment which he said was duly carried out. He dismissed the notion that the President did not follow due process as claimed by some disgruntled personalities. ‘The president has acted well and the senate has done the correct thing”, he told the press at a briefing in his Lagos offices.

Apart from the ethnic balancing which Olu-Kayode is bringing on board, he is the first EFCC chair from the Southern part of the country thus eclipsing the notion that the commission is for certain people from certain parts of the country. “The president is bold and fearless; he exhibited equity, justice, and fairness unlike what was witnessed in the past”, he told the press.

Barrister Abubakar further disclosed that Olu Kayode is a member of the Institute of Arbitration In France; he is also an alumnus of the Kennedy School of Executive Education, University of Harvard, United States. With over 22 years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant and specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence, he is no doubt the right man for the job.

Olu Kayode also worked in the law firm of former vice-president Yemi Osibanjo, from where he joined the EFCC as chief of staff to the then Executive Chairman Ibrahim Magu 2018-2023. “It was during this period he gave a good account of himself and discharged his duties without fear or favor”, disclosed Barrister Abubakar Yesufu”
