Following a crucial meeting with leaders of all security agencies and political parties in Kano on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel, issued a stern warning to leaders and supporters of the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC).

They were cautioned against engaging in any activities that could disrupt the peace in the state, especially in anticipation of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

The Commissioner of Police reassured residents that the police and sister security agencies have devised strategies to ensure the security of lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The meeting, attended by selected Local Government Council chairmen, witnessed a commitment from all stakeholders, including NNPP and APC leaders, to maintain peace in Kano.

CP Gumel expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in adhering to the peace accord. He highlighted the police command’s proactive measures in addressing potential threats from undisclosed political pressure groups attempting to disrupt the state’s current peaceful situation.

During the meeting, the heads of joint security agencies reviewed the security situation and agreed on measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order before, during, and after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Governorship Election Petition. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of the community-based policing approach and revealed visits to religious leaders to garner their support in promoting peaceful coexistence.

CP Gumel reiterated the commitment of joint security agencies to prioritize the protection of lives and property. He warned against any attempts to disrupt the peace and assured the public that robust strategies were in place to deal with potential sources of unrest.

The Commissioner urged citizens to report any suspicious activities and provided emergency contact numbers for the Kano State Police Command.
