Review 2024 Niger Delta Ministry Budget. ...As Hon. Omoruyi Presents BNC Petition before NASS

Member of the House of Representatives representing Egor/ Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency of Edo state, Hon Murphy Omoruyi has presented a position in a petition by the Benin National Congress before the house of representatives in Abuja over injustice perpetrated by the Minister of Niger Delta, Hon. Abubakar Momoh by excluding Edo South from its 2024 budget.

It will be recalled that the BNC had in December 2023 sent a petition to the Benin Monarch; the Oba of Benin, followed by another one earlier this year, addressed to the BRACED commission on the same matter which was copied to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, amongst others.

Hon Omoruyi in his presentation during his address before the speaker of the House of Representatives condemned Dr. Abubakar Momoh-led Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs for proposing to site over 35% of the projects in the Edo North Senatorial District where he hails from without consuming the Edo South who are major oil producing region.

Omoruyi stressed that his own constituency within the Edo South Senatorial zone which house the bulk of the oil deposits in Edo State was ignored while Edo North that does not produce even a drop of oil is being considered for all the Edo projects.

The Honourable Member therefore called for a revisit of the 2024 budget to correct this perceived anomaly.

Hon. Omoruyi stated: ” Mr. Speaker, I am from Benin City Edo state. I have a petition from the Benin National Congress, BNC. This petition is against the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta, Dr Abubakar Momoh. It is in respect of the 2024 budget.

” The 35% of the total budget was sited in Edo North with not a single oil to the detriment of Ikpoba Okha, Oredo, and Ovia Northeast.

” Our people are boiling, and they are about to go on war. They believe it is not too late to redirect the Hon. Minister reviewed those projects to include Ikpoba Okha, Oredo, and Ovia Northeast in Edo South Senatorial District”, he noted.
