Edo State Govt raises miminum wage to N70,000

Edo State Government has increased minimum wage payable to civil servants to N70,000 monthly.

The package approved by the outgoing Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, will come into effect as from May 1, 2024.

Until the announcement on Monday, preparatory to the Workers’ Day celebration, Edo state had been paying N40,000 as minimum wage, N10,000 more than what many states were paying.

This is the second time that Governor Obaseki has increased minimum wage in the state.

The first time was about 2021 when he raised the minimum wage from N30,000 to N40,000.

The state is not owing workers’ salaries whereas some states which are paying N30,000 as minimum wage have been finding it difficult meeting that obligation.

Details soon.
