Foreign Affairs Minister presents his ministry scorecard

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, highlights significant achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration during the Ministerial Sectoral Update.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasised the introduction of the 4D doctrine in foreign policy, focusing on development, demography, diaspora and democracy, with strategic autonomy at its core.

Regarding development, Tuggar underscored efforts to secure employment for Nigerians through double-digit growth in agriculture, manufacturing and infrastructure, prioritising trade and enhancing participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). "One of our achievements is pushing two senior Nigerian officials into the higher echelons of AfCFTA", he noted.

Tuggar also highlighted significant investments secured under President Tinubu’s leadership. "We've concluded an investment deal worth 250 million euros from the Netherlands for waste-to-wealth initiatives", he said. He also mentioned the National Livestock Transformation Plan in partnership with FrieslandCampina WAMCO and a $14 billion investment, with a $7 billion drawdown by Indorama, managing Eleme Petrochemical.

Diaspora engagement has seen improvements in consular services and the promotion of remittances and human capital gains. "We want members of our Diaspora to project a positive image of Nigeria", Tuggar stated. He accentuated collaboration with other ministries to support these efforts.

On democracy, Tuggar reiterated Nigeria's commitment to regional peace and stability, conflict resolution and the fight against terrorism. He stressed that Nigeria's approach respects the unique democratic structures of other nations.

Key financial agreements include a $600 million Digital Creative Enterprise deal with France and a $2 billion Siemens electrification project, involving the installation of 10 power transformers. Tuggar expressed pride in this project, recalling his involvement as ambassador in Germany.

"We are committed to making Nigeria a pivotal player on the global stage through strategic foreign policy and substantial international investments", Tuggar deduced.
