Minister of Interior, Gov. Alia, others, passionate about Nigeria Fire Extinguisher Sticker (NFES) project

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Governor of Benue state, Dr. Hyacinth Alia, and the principal partner of N-Alert, and concessionaire, Mr. Benson Olatunji, have highlighted the importance of the Nigeria Fire Extinguisher Sticker, (NFES) project in Nigeria.

You may recall that in May 2023, the Federal Executive Council approved the concession of the National Fire Data Repository Center Enterprise Unit, under the public partnership arrangement.

And since its conception, the Minister have never hidden his admiration and passion for the project, and even stated some time ago that, if supported, the project has the capacity of impacting the Nigeria economy in a very positive and progressive manner.

He expressed happiness with the whole essence of the project which he maintained is geared primarily toward controlling fire and ensure prompt response to any fire incident.

Just last year, while commissioning some of the newly acquired fire engines by the Federal Fire Service, he urged them to approach fire prevention by being proactive and applying technology-based methods and tactics for its operations, while reiterating the need to scale up employments, training of service and non-service men and build collaborative ties with relevant security agencies.

"As we continue to implement the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), the Federal Fire Service will rise to its responsibility of preventing fire disasters, firefighting and even creating thousands of jobs for economic prosperity", the Minister said.

For his part, the Governor of Benue state, Hyacinth Alia, who set the record of being the first governor to key into the project thereby creating job for about ten thousand Benue youths, spoke about the benefit of the program in his state, “It will control situation in which fire extinguisher fail at point of usage. Enable arrest and prosecution of fake and wicked servicing vendors who fill fire extinguisher cylinder with cassava flour which increases fire instead of quenching it at most critical point of usage.

“Another rebirth and retooling of our state fire service to effectively deliver its mandate of fire prevention, response and investigation.

“The repositioning will boost our performance in the committees of agencies and deepen public participation in the state security and public safety.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Benson Olatunji, the National Coordinator Nigeria Fire Extinguisher Sticker (NFES) concessionaire and N-Alert Technical partner with Ministry of Interior, Abuja, speaking with our correspondent in his office, recently noted that the objective of the programme is to sensitise the public on the importance of the multiple uses of fire extinguishers.

"The project is a practical demonstration of the whole society approach to national strategy involving all government security outfits to collaborate to solve internal security and public safety problems.

“Also pertinent to note is that this is the first programme ever to employ such a large number of Benue indigene across the 23 LGAs in a single exercise in the state.

“It is also set to boost the IGR of the state with annual estimated projections of over N1.6 billion. The programme also sets to boost inter and intra governmental collaboration between Federal Government and State Government”, he concluded.
