Detention of Six Years old Minor by Sobe DPO: Family Threatened legal Action

The family of Mr. Solomon Aveobama has threatened a legal action against the Division Police Officer in charge of Sobe Police Station, Joshua Esiolee, for allegedly detaining a six-year old girl who was defiled by a fourteen-year-old boy.

The Divisional Police Officer detained the minor in his station after refusing the plead of the girl family on the alleged order that he was asked to bring the parties involved before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Benin City.

The six-year-old girl was defiled by a fourteen-year-old boy who is also a minor.

Solomon Aveobama (father of the girl) who spoke with our reporter said though the police was involved in the case, but after due dialogue with the boy's father, they decided to settle with the family at home.

Solomon said to his greatest surprise, the DPO not only refused them to take the matter back home for settlement but detained his six years old daughter overnight at the police station without proper care in the guise that he is taking them before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Benin.

While lamenting the unlawful detention of his daughter by the DPO, Mr. Aveobama appealed to the inspector General of Police to intervene so that his child can be released to him.

Meanwhile, the family of the six-year-old girl have threatened to sue the DPO for infringing on the right of the girl.

They wondered why the DPO, who is fully aware that the girl in question is a minor and the victim in the case, would defy the plea of both families and go ahead to detain the girl, who is a minor, in his station.
