Nigeria economic society to collaborate with FRC for economic stability

The Nigerian Economic Society (NES) has called for collaboration with the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in the area of fiscal studies aimed at timely intervention for economic stability. The president of the Nigerian Economic Society, Prof. Adeola Adenikinji stated this recently during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Victor Muruako, Esq at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja.

According to Prof. Adenikinji, the Nigerian Economic Society is a professional body that deals with data and evidence instead of theory.

The president explained that the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) was formed in 1957 by Nigerian scholars as a united platform for Nigerian Economists and allied Social Scientists to provide intellectual leadership in the process of understanding and managing economic, social and political changes in Nigeria.

He further said that the NES will leverage its long-standing experience to revolutionise the Fiscal ecosystem of Nigeria. The Nigerian Economic Society organized its first seminar on April 5, 1958, in London and began publishing its main organ, the Nigerian Journal of Economic and Social Studies (NJESS) in 1959.

He used the opportunity to invite the staff of the Commission to join the Nigerian Economic Society as a professional body for the effective delivery of their services to the nation on fiscal studies.

He assured the Commission that its experts will help to further transform the Commission through the Fiscal Responsibility Act, of 2007.

In his response, the Executive Chairman, of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Victor Muruako, Esq appreciated the President and his team and assured them of the readiness of the Commission to collaborate with them in terms of capacity building and research.

Muruako promised to identify with the NES in their fourth coming Annual General Meeting and encouraged the staff to join the Nigerian Economic Society.

FRC Boss appealed to them to feel free to invite the Commission to any of their programmes that have to do with Fiscal analysis.

Barr. Muruako described the meeting as critical because economic stability lies in accountability and transparency.

He went further to say that the problem the economy is having today is significantly due to noncompliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act, of 2007. The Fiscal Responsibility Act, of 2007 is very critical in ensuring stability in the fiscal framework and economic growth of the country.

He called on the NES to support the ongoing amendment of the Fiscal Responsibility Act which is purposely to strengthen the national economy and to raise more revenue into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federal Government.

Barr. Muruako stressed that there is a need to adjust and renew the hope of Nigerians in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
