Anambra election: APGA commends INEC over Soludo, Ibezim

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for listing Prof. Charles Soludo as the party’s Anambra governorship candidate.

APGA gave the commendation in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Tex Okechukwu, on Thursday in Abuja.

Dr Onyekachikwu Ibezim was also listed alongside Soludo, by INEC, as the deputy governorship candidate of APGA for the Nov. 6 governorship election.

Okechukwu said the party was glad that after several weeks of suspense and confusion, INEC had brought some respite by obeying the Kano Court of Appeal judgment.

He congratulated APGA’s supporters for their steadfastness, courage and loyalty.

“We thank our numerous supporters, well-wishers and friends across party lines for standing by us throughout the trying period.”

NAN reports that in the list, first published on July 16, INEC listed Michael Umeoji as the candidate for APGA, an action that caused an uproar within the party.

A Court of Appeal sitting in Kano affirmed Mr Victor Oye as APGA’s chairman and Soludo was elected governorship candidate of the party during a primary organised by the Oye-led faction.

The party insisted that it did not have any factional group because the Oye-led executive was the genuine one as supported by its constitution.
