ICAN will support govt in fighting corruption — chairman

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) says the institute will always support the government in the fight against corruption at all levels.

”We wlll support government’s efforts in fighting corruption because a nation that is not free of corruption can not stand,” Dr Bernard Alkali, ICAN Chiarman of Jos and District Society, said on Thursday in Jos.

During a road walk organised by the institute to mark the 2021 International Accountant Week, he noted that accountants remained critical stakeholders in growing the nation’s economy.

“Part of the gospel we are preaching today is that corruption is a cankerworm that should be fought vigorously,” he said.

Alkali explained that accountants provide financial advice, auditing and ensure prudency in every sector of the economy.

“We want to tell the whole world how relevant we are in the society; we are the custodian of the finances of this nation.

“We are the set of people who provide financial advice on how best to manage the economy of any nation.

“So, we are critical stakeholders when it comes to ensuring that our economy enjoys steady growth,” he said

The chairman explained that the road walk was aimed at making its members keep fit.

The members’ road walk began from the Old airport junction to the Secretariat Junction, Jos.
