The Nigerian Immigration Service is to commence acceptance of applications for passports from the 1st of June 2021.

The Comptroller General of the service, Mohammed Babandede stated this while briefing Journalist in Abuja.

The Comptroller General explained that reopening acceptance of applications followed the decision to clear all backlog this month.

He said from first of next month, every application will take six weeks for the booklets to be collected.

He called on all Nigerians who have applied for the booklets to check for text messages alerting them for collection.

Mohammed Babandede further said the service has been re-positioned to deliver on her mandate.

The Nigeria Immigration Service had closed all passport issuance offices on the 17th of this month to enable it clear all backlog of over sixty thousand booklets as directed by the Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
