Police council confirms Usman Baba as Inspector General

The Police Council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, has confirmed Usman Alkali Baba as Inspector-General of Police.

This disclosure was made by the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, on Friday, June 4, 2021, while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting saying that the appointment of Usman Baba was unanimously confirmed by those who participated in the meeting.

He also noted that Buhari directed the Police Boss to ensure insecurity is brought to the barest minimum.

It would be recalled that President Buhari on April 6, appointed Usman Baba as acting IG of Police to replace Mohammed Adamu who retired from Nigeria Police Force in February 2021 pending confirmation by the Council.

Baba was before his appointment in April, a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Force Criminal Investigation Department at the Force Headquarters. He was also a former Assistant Inspector-General of police Zone 5, in-charge of Edo State, Delta State and Bayelsa State. Bala is a fellow of the International War College and a member of the International Association of Police.
