The ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating recovered Nigeria loot has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele to appear before them.

The committee also extended the ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Akali Baba, National Security Adviser, Babangana Monguno and the Director-General of NIMASA, Bashir Jamoh.

The decision to summon them followed a motion moved at the hearing on Monday. The CBN Governor and others had failed to appear before the investigative committee, and instead sent representatives.

Ibrahim Isiaka, a member of the committee, moved the motion during the hearing.

The Chairman of the Committee, Adejoro Adeogun, who was visibly dismayed with the agencies, said the actions of the agencies are an insult to House of Representatives.

Adeogun said the 4 summoned individuals should appear before the committee or the lawmakers will “invoke its power to deal with them according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The 1999 Constitution gives the National Assembly powers to summon anyone during public hearings and to issue warrant of arrest if summoned individuals fail to appear.
