Chief Gado Dama, the community leader of Jebbu Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau, has appealed for intervention in the rebuilding of burnt houses and a clinic affected during attacks on the community.

The leader made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Jos.

Jebbu Miango community in Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area had experienced several attacks in 2021 and early 2022 in its villages where no fewer than 200 houses were reported burnt and many farmlands destroyed.

He said that many people in his community were experiencing hardship arising from the destroyed houses, especially with the coming of the rains.

“I call on the government, organisations and philanthropists to help us in fixing our roofs as we do not have resources and our farms which are our source of livelihood are being destroyed every day,” he said.

Gado thanked a Catholic organisation, Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JPDC) for helping some community members with the roofing of their houses, saying that the act had given others hope for succour.

“JPDC has helped in roofing more than 65 per cent of the burnt houses.

“They donated some roofing sheets and materials for us and about 40 houses are being roofed now.

“We plead with the government and other well-wishers to assist those remaining.

“We have challenges of accessing healthcare here because our clinic was destroyed and drugs were stolen,” he said.

He called for deliberate efforts by the government and other stakeholders to put an end to insecurity in the area saying, “it has affected the education of their children and other economic activities”.
