Francisco Luz, the Consul General of Brazil in Lagos has said that his country plays a significant role in the world’s food and energy security.

According to him, this is because Brazil is one of the world’s largest exporters of agricultural products such as soybeans, maize, coffee, cotton, poultry, beef, and sugar.

Luz said this on Wednesday night at a reception organized by the Consulate to commemorate 200 years of Brazil’s independence from Portugal.

The consul general pointed to Brazil’s industrialized economy, and its competitiveness in the software, construction, medical equipment, aviation, automobile, and technology sectors.

He also pointed out that his country is rich in natural resources, some of which are oil and gas.

“Today, Brazil is among the top 10 largest economies in the world, with a population of more than 215 million people, ranking 7th in the world, in a territory of continental proportions,” he said.

Speaking on Brazil’s diverse culture, Luz noted that three ethnical elements – the natives, the Portuguese, and the Africans formed the basis of the country’s initial national identity.

He further said that by receiving immigrants from almost all over the world, the country became the cultural and ethnic melting pot it has become today.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commemorative event treated friends of Brazil to samples of Brazilian cuisine, music, and rich cultural performances.
