The Senate on Wednesday considered a bill seeking to empower poor Nigerians in rural areas with guaranteed income and jobs that would provide 100 days of paid work per year. 

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, says the Nigeria Police will soon begin the recruitment of 20,000 junior police officers.

In a bid to put to an end to the high level killings, kidnapping and acts of terrorism in Kaduna State, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has ordered the complete shut down of telecommunications in some part of the state, while also clamping down on the operations of tricycles and motorcycles popularly known as Okada. 

The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Police says it has arrested two suspected bandits, two informants and also rescued 10 victims of kidnapping.

The Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday, stopped the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) from retrying former Abia Governor, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu over alleged N7.1 billion fraud.

The Senate on Wednesday at plenary observed a minute silence in honour of late Dr Chike Akunyili, husband to Prof. Dora Akunyeli, former Director-General of NAFDAC, who was murdered on Sept. 28.
