The Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali-Junaidu, has underscored the need for peaceful polls in 2023.


Speaking at a two-day Workshop on Conflict Mitigation and Prevention Dialogue organized by USAID State2State for CSOs, political stakeholders, Journalists, and community leaders on Friday in Sokoto, Wali-Junaidu noting the relevance of a peaceful poll for the corporate existence of the country.


He urged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), political stakeholders, and Journalists to redouble efforts to reduce conflicts.


”There is a need for a good understanding of interests and differences, dialogue among different groups with a view to work in harmony for the development of the society.


”I urge Nigerians to be law-abiding citizens, be patriotic at all times for the peaceful coexistence and the nation,” he said.


Also speaking, Mrs. Hajara Shifkau, the State Team Lead (STL) of the State2State in Sokoto state, said the workshop was organized to strengthen understanding among participants.


Shifkau expressed optimism that the efforts would promote harmonious coexistence, a hitch-free election, and enhance peace.


A Facilitator, Mrs. A’isha Ahmad, led participants on contextual understanding of the conflict environment as well as mainstreaming gender and social Inclusion in conflict mitigation and prevention strategies.


Ahmad dwelled on understanding the root causes of conflicts in society.


She urged participants to live up to expectations and educate members of the public.


The Conflict Specialist of State2State, Mr. John Dash, called for the promotion of conflict mitigation and prevention strategies.
