Sen.Ovie Omo-Agege, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship candidate in Delta, says he will invest in security architecture to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the state.
Omo-Agege, also the Deputy President of the Senate, made the promise on Monday at a Town Hall meeting with Private School Owners of Nigeria (PSON), Delta chapter.
“A good government should do a proper investment in security architecture. A proper investment in security will contribute to business growth,” he said.
Addressing the school owners, Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, also stressed the need for investment in the education sector.
He said “a country is as good as the product of its education, assuring them that he would address their needs when he eventually emerged as the governor.”
The APC governorship candidate decried the hardship, which retirees gone through in the state, noting that some of them had died without getting their gratuities.
He described the situation as abnormal, promising to address the anomalies.
Omo-Agege expressed displeasure over the level of underdevelopment in Warri, pledging to embark on mass urban renewal in Warri metropolis.
“Addressing unemployment is key to us and we have it in our blueprint.
“We will dredge the Warri River to allow vessels navigate into our ports and by implication create jobs for our people.
“We will also ensure multinationals operating in Delta relocate their headquarters to the state,” he promised.
Omo-Agege, however, urged the people to vote for all the APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
Earlier, Mr Lucky Ovwigho, who spoke on behalf of PSON, decried the exorbitant levies being charged for enrolment, licence renewal and other taxes by the state government in spite of its contributions to employment generation.
Ovwigho urged Omo-Agege to address the challenges when he emerged as governor of the state.
He said that the group had meticulously examined all the political candidates vying for various political offices in the state and made its choice.
According to him, among all the governorship candidates in Delta, Omo-Agege is the most qualified.
“He has the zeal and feeling of the people of Delta to our much craved political eldorado, economic freedom, empowerment and jobs creation that have been elusive over the years.
“We have longed for an egalitarian society, a state of our own, where equity, fairness and justice shall be the symbol of the citizens and government, irrespective of origin or zonal backgrounds.
“We are highly endeared to the capacity, personality and proven track records of your stewardship to the people of Delta Central in particular, Delta and Nigeria in general.
“You have indeed brought light to your people through your qualitative and quantitative representation which we tagged the first of its kind
“To this end, PSON is prepared to deliver on your mandate by involving all our executive members, private school owners, teaching and non-teaching staff, our esteemed parents and everyone on the streets of Delta,” he said.
Ovwigho, however, listed some of the group’s needs to include: reduction in the school’s yearly renewal fees, provision of grants, among others.
The APC campaign train, thereafter, moved to Effurun where they held another Town Hall meeting with the Medical Association in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government area.
Addressing the healthcare workers, Omo-Agege said that
healthcare delivery should be a right for everyone and not a privilege.
While assuring them of
adequate training and retraining, he promised to upgrade the existing healthcare facilities and also build a digitalised ones.
Omo-Agege promised that he would have quarterly interactive session with the health workers to discuss on ways of moving the sector forward.
The candidate said he would make make the needed investment in the public healthcare to reduce over burden in the tertiary healthcare system.
He said that his administration would encourage Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the healthcare management system to reduce child mortality rate.
Omo-Agege also said that his government would ensure robust and effective working relationship between the healthcare workers and security agencies in the state to ensure effective service delivery.
Among the medical associations were: Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria;
Association of Resident Doctors, DELSU branch; Association of National Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria; Association of Nurses and Midwifery, DELSU branch; Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria and Pharmacy Society of Nigeria.
On the campaign team of the APC included: Elder Godsday Orubebe, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and Mrs Veronica Ogbuagu, Director-General, Delta APC Campaign Organisations, among others.
