A Jigawa-based NGO, Baba Azimi Foundation (BAF), has trained community-based observers in three Local Government Areas in the State ahead of the general elections.

Speaking at the end of the exercise on Friday in Dutse, Mrs. A’isha Sulaiman, Executive Director of BAF, said the exercise was aimed at ensuring free, fair, and credible polls.

Sulaiman said that the training was conducted with support from ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) after the participants were accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

”This is in preparation for the general elections, we organised this training on election guidelines for those who will serve as our observers at the community level.

“We taught them how to use the necessary forms and the mobile App developed specifically to observe the election.

“This is basically aimed towards a free, fair, and credible election in Jigawa and Nigeria,” Sulaiman said.

She added that at the end of the polls, information gathered would be collated and presented before INEC and other election stakeholders for future use.

According to her, the gesture was to help the electoral body improve its future elections.

Some of the trainees, Hauwa Maigari and Hassan Muhammad, commended the BAF for the training and promised to use the knowledge acquired judiciously. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
