Adamawa 2023: I will not step down for anyone – Babainna
Lt. Cdr. Ibrahim Babainna (Rtd)

The Adamawa Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) gubernatorial candidate, Lt. Cdr. Ibrahim Babainna (Rtd) has declared that he has no plans to step down for any other party’s candidate ahead of this Saturday’s governorship election.

“The Governorship election is in seven days and we are in the last lap of the campaigns. The journey for the past eight months has not been easy. It has been challenging, difficult, frustrating, treacherous, interesting and also fun,” he said in a message to his supporters.

Babainna is the first governorship candidate the PRP has produced in Adamawa state in its history. It is not usually surprising for political aspirants to step down and throw their weight behind other candidates as elections approach. Most of the time, such actions are influenced by financial incentives or promises of rewards in the form of political appointments after electoral victory is secured.

“I have been able to pull through because of your prayers, encouragement, support and donations especially from family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers. I thank everyone who has been there for me so far.

“I have received numerous calls and suggestions to endorse/have an alliance with some political parties in Adamawa State. I intend to complete the whole process of the election and with this in mind I will not be backing down or forming an alliance but will cast my mandatory one vote and with many other supporters' votes, God willing I will be victorious in the election. A greater Adamawa is possible with your support.

"In the days before the recently concluded presidential elections, we were put under pressure to endorse different candidates, but we didn't budge. We will not do so now. The credibility of our great party and the respect of our supporters are not currencies we will trade. We may not have all the money in the world, but we have the trust of our supporters," he added.

Babainna is running on a youth-focused campaign built around Security, Economy and Education (SEE) that aims to build a security-centric governance system, transform agriculture using technology, catalyse the SME sector, and optimize basic, technical and vocational education in Adamawa state.
