The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Ahmed Ammani, has urged political parties, their supporters, the electorate and residents to remain law-abiding over the complicity on last Saturday’s governorship elections.
INEC, on Monday, suspended collation of results and announcement of the winner of the March 18 Governorship Election in the state following contention in the results of Nkanu East and Nsukka council areas of the state at the poll.
This is contained in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Monday in Enugu.
The Commissioner, while appreciating the peaceful disposition of the electorate during the elections, warned those planning to hide under the elections to foment trouble, to desist forthwith.
According to him, police will not hesitate to deal decisively with any person or persons found breaching public peace in the state.
“The CP further warns political parties, their candidates and supporters, to desist from making unguided utterances and using the social media to create and peddle negative information around the elections.
“This is done in such a way as to cause tension and/or incite people to violence, especially through unapproved protests in contravention of the provisions of the Public Order Act 2004.
“To this end, residents have been called upon to quickly report criminal suspects and anyone found breaching public peace to the nearest police station.
