The governor-elect in Kebbi, Dr. Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday appreciated the electorate for entrusting him with the mandate to steer the affairs of governance in the state.

In his acceptance speech, Idris, the immediate past president of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, said his administration would galvanize the education sector and give it a genuine and functional direction.

“To do this, we must revolutionize the sector. We must equip our schools with current learning materials and facilities.

“We shall ensure that the state is no longer listed among the states placing last in West African Examination Council, National Examination Council, and National Business and Technical Examinations Board’s examinations.

“Teachers will get their reward here on earth before they get it from God in the hereafter,’’ he said.

The immediate past deputy president of the NLC also assured that the state would answer its name as the food basket of the nation and would create millionaire farmers.

“We have an agenda of complete rural transformation.

“We also worry about the security situation in the southern part of the state and we will do everything to ensure that our people sleep with their eyes closed.

“Different welfare policies and programs shall be introduced for the betterment of our youths and women,’’ Idris said.

He urged his opponents at the election to join hands with his administration in his quest to make Kebbi greater.

“Elections are over now; what remains is the onerous task of building the state, and the task of building the state is a collective responsibility of all of us,’’ he stressed.

The governor-elect commended Gov. Atiku Bagudu for his commitment to a better state and his unflinching support for the success of the APC in Kebbi.

“We thank the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami.

“We also thank former Gov. Saidu Dakingari, as well as other members of the campaign council for their support in the success of the party in the state,’’ Idris said.

Idris polled 409,225 votes at Saturday’s supplementary election to emerge victorious.

He defeated retired Maj.-Gen. Aminu Bande of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 360,940 votes and Alhaji Udu Idris of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), scored 3,103 votes.

The supplementary election was held in 142 polling units across 20 of the 21 local government areas of the state.

INEC had earlier declared the March 18 governorship election in the state as inconclusive.
