Former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly and top member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Kabiru Adjoto has debunked rumours making the rounds of his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking Friday on his mobile phone, Prince Adjoto said that he actually met immediate past governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North), House of Representatives member, Comrade Peter Akpatason (Akoko Edo) and other top members of the APC in Abuja for "some discussions."
Despite the Abuja parley, he however, ironically, denied reports of his defection to the ruling party, insisting that when he makes a move, it will be in the open and not behind closed doors.
He said: "I am still in PDP. It is true that I went to Abuja to see the Senator representing me in Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and other leaders of APC but I have not defected. If I defect, it will be in the open in Edo and not in a prob residence in Abuja."
A source close to the ex-speaker from ward six in Akoko Edo Local Government Area, however insisted that the politician's soul is no longer in the PDP and his doubtful loyalty is the reason why he was left out in the just constituted 200-man campaign council of the PDP.
The source added that Prince Adjoto fell out with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki over the choice of Mr. Omobayo Marvelous Godwins, the new deputy governor, a fellow Akoko Edo homeboy, instead of him (Adjoto).
Again, the source who would not want his name in print noted that the former speaker is further irked by the fact that the 37 year old deputy governor is now the political leader of Akoko Edo Local Government Area even though he's a political neophyte by virtue of his position as Edo number two citizen.
The source said: "Adjoto is headed for the APC where he was as a foundation member before he defected to the PDP during the run up to the 2020 governorship election.
"He went to Abuja to iron out the details of his defection to APC. The former speaker will soon make a move. He is headed back home to the APC like the prodigal son. There will be a formal ceremony in Edo to welcome him back home."
The source added that the impending exit of Prince Adjoto, Chief Christopher Dirisu and other leaders, who were with him at the meeting with the former national chairman of the APC, will, no doubt, change the political dynamic of the oldest local government area in Edo State.
