The number of governorship aspirants in Plateau has continued to increase as the country prepared for general elections in 2023.
With many posters littering the streets across the state canvassing support for no fewer than 20 aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), only Permanent Secretary, Special Duties in the state, Mr. Sunday Biggs has, however, declared for the seat on Wednesday.
Biggs made the declaration in Mangu, Mangu Local Government Area of the state, his place of birth.
He said that he had a good experience, having worked with three different governors, to govern the state.
The governorship aspirants said that he learned a lot from Plateau and leaders, both past and present.
“I have tapped from their wisdom, expertise, and knowledge and therefore, I am equipped with experience to offer myself.
“My work has made me interact with captains of industry, top technocrats, diplomats, and a cross-section of top political leaders of this country.
“This has positioned me with the understanding and knowledge of issues and dynamics of developmental governance as well as social, economic, and infrastructural re-engineering.
“It is based on this that my campaign mantra is “The BiggThings Coming,” he said.
Biggs stated that if elected, his administration would focus on four priority areas — peace and enhanced security, agricultural development, solid minerals development, and mining and social services critical infrastructure.
He stated that in the course of his work and growth in service, he was
mindful of the place of women, children, and people living with disabilities.
“I, therefore, submit and declare interest to secure the ticket of our party.
“If given the chance to serve, I will present to our great people equality and a level playground for all, irrespective of ethnicity and religion.
The aspirant cautioned his supporters that on no account should they or any group campaign for him use vulgar language or show disrespect for anyone contesting the same office or their supporters.
The APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Sylvanus Namang, in his remarks, said that nobody from Mangu had become the state governor in the past 40 years.
Naming said that Biggs’ declaration presented the area with the opportunity to fulfill the yearnings of the people of the area to produce the state governor.
The publicity secretary stated that those who were contemplating leaving the party should know that they were committing political suicide.
Mr. Laden Abdullahi, the APC Chairman in Mangu Local Government, said “Biggs knows everything about government”.
“If you want to travel somewhere, go with someone that knows the road. Biggs knows the road to Plateau Government House.
“It is for Mangu to produce the governor of Plateau and Mangu knows who will be the governor and that person is Sunday Biggs.”
The APC Chairman, Mangu Ward II, Mr. John Yaba, presented Biggs to the chairman of the party in the local government and other party stakeholders.
