Valentine Ozigbo wins PDP NWC-backed Anambra Governorship Primary

Former President of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) Valentine Ozigbo narrowly emerged victorious in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election held at Dora Akunyili Women's Development Center in Awka, Anambra state.

The primaries that saw the emergence of Ozigbo was backed by PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

Earlier on Saturday a Chukwudi Umeaba-led faction of the PDP announced Sen. Ugochukwu Uba as winner of the faction's primaries held at Paul University Complex, Awka.

Uba, a member of the senate from 2003 to 2007, secured 275 votes to beat other aspirants at the primary election which held at the University of St. Paul, Awka, capital of the state.

His closest challengers; Godwin Ezeemo polled 114 votes to come second, while Uche Ekwunife, a senator, scored 56 votes to come third.

The result showed that Ozigbo scored 62 votes to closely beat Obiorah Okonkwo who secured 58 votes.

Serving Senator Iyom Uche Ekwunife polled 44 votes while Winston Udeh and Dr Godwin Maduka scored 12 and five votes respectively.

While announcing Ozigbo's victory of Ozigbo, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Phillip Shuaibu said 16 aspirants contested the primaries but three stepped down, including Dr Tony Nwoye.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Ozigbo thanked leading members of the party and his fellow contestants, urging them to work with am to achieve success.
