IMC Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye will on January 5, 2023, address the Governors’ Forum at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja about efforts to reposition the NPFL and the need for theircommited support in this regard.
Eighteen of the 20 clubs are owned by the State Governments and there has been a need for the real owners of these clubs to be carried along as it concerns the challenges of organising the country’s top league as well as the bigger picture for the NPFL.
“The so-called Club Owners are appointed by these State Governors, but they are not the real owners of these clubs,” an official said.
“It is high time that the true owners of these clubs knew how their investments are being run and whether or not there is a future for such huge investment.”
Club Owners, who in the true sense of it are administrators appointed by the State Governors, have kicked against an abridged NPFL season for fear they will receive reduced budgets as a result.
However, the IMC has argued that all Stakeholders must make the necessary sacrifices for an abridged NPFL season so that the league’s calendar will align with that in Europe.
