Corinne Diacre’s contract as head coach of the French women’s national football team has been terminated following an “irreversible” breakdown in relations with some of her senior players.
The decision was confirmed in a statement from the French Football Federation (FFF) issued on Thursday.
France captain Wendie Renard and her team-mates Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani have put their international careers on hold recently, amid reports of tensions with Diacre.
The FFF said a panel commissioned by the federation’s interim president Philippe Diallo had found “a significant fracture” in relationships that had “reached a point of no return.”
“It appears that the dysfunction observed seems, in this context, irreversible,” the FFF statement said.
“In view of these elements, it was decided to end Corinne Diacre’s mission as the head of the French women’s team.
“This change of coach is part of a new ambition led by the FFF in favor of the development of women’s football and the performance of the French team, which will have to achieve high objectives during the 2023 FIFA World Cup and 2024 Olympics.”
