How Nigeria medal hopefuls miss out on Day 11 of the Olympics

The hope for Nigeria contingent that were in 2024 Olympic games Paris, France to win medals has become slim every day.

 As Favour Ofili and Blessing Oborududu miss out of medal placement on Day 11 of the ongoing Olympics.

Favour Ofili run for lane nine finish 6th for the Women 200 metres final with a time of 22.24.

Gabrielle Thomas of USA win the race with a time of 21.83 to win Gold, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia finish second wit 22.08 to win Silver while Brittany Brown of USA win Bronze with a time of 22.20.

 Bronze medal fight for, wrestling Tokyo 2020 Silver medallist Blessing Oborududu also lose 3-0 to her Japanese opponent for the 68kg Freestyle.

Favour Ofili run her season best of 22.05s to finish second just behind Julien Alfred who win the race to qualify for the final on Monday.

She is hree-time world championships semifinalist - 400m for 2019, 200m for 2022 and 2023.

Ofili who is first time Olympian were first Nigerian woman to qualify for the final of the 200m at the Olympics in 28 years.

The last time a Nigerian made it to the final of women 200m was in Atlanta 1996 when Mary Onyali win bronze medal.

For Blessing Oborududu, she has won Nigeria first Olympics medal ever for wrestling in 2020 Olympics 

Blessing Oborodudu lose wrestling bronze medal event.

Oborududu, lose her bronze medal match to her Japanese opponent 3-0 also lose her semi-final match against Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan 1-3 on Monday, 

The semi-final bout of the women 68kg wrestling event for 2024 Paris Olympics took place at the Champ-de-Mars Arena.

Earlier Oborududu defeated her Canadian opponent, Linda Morais, 8-2 for a place for the quarter-final.

She made it to quarter-final and defeated Larroque Koumba of France 6-2 to continue her good start for Olympics before she lost her semi-final to Zhumanazarova.

Favour Ofili 200m final history

Ofili makes history on Monday by becoming the first Nigerian woman in 28 years to reach the 200m final, matching Mary Onyali achievement in 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

She achieve a personal season best of 22.05s, to finish second for her semi-final heat behind Julien Alfred, the reigning Olympic 100m champion

How other Nigerians perform on Day 11

Three Nigerians Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor has qualify for the Long Jump finals.

According to Ministry of Sports Nigeria, since the African started to compete in the Olympic Games since 1952, no three athletes has qualify for finals of the same Individual event before.

Ese Brume who won bronze medal in Tokyo 2020 Olympic jump 6.76 metres for her last attempt to qualify.

Ruth Usoro jumps 6.68 metres to get her first Olympic final spot and also her first time to compete in Olympics.

Prestina Ochonogor jumps 6.65 metres to also qualify for the finals her first time Olympics.

The final will take place on Thursday, 8 August 2024 by 7pm Nigerian time.

Meanwhile no good news for Nigerian Record holder, Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi who compete for the men Javelin event.

Nnamdi finish 14th from im qualification group with a throw of 77.53m.
