“We discovered lifters who will represent Nigeria at int’l championships” – Nwadei

The Technical Director, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Christopher Nwadei, has said the Federation has discovered lifters who would represent the country in International Championships.

Nwadei disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of the Inspector-General ot Police (IGP) National Open Weightlifting Championship, on Friday in Abuja.

He said several lifters had been discovered and that they would be nursed for future encounters.

The technical director said that the performance of the lifters who participated in championship were highly commendable.

“This competition brought out some new potential lifters that will be useful by the country.

“They all did well in the competition, I must confess I’m really surprised with what each of them displayed in this Championship.

“We are going to do a follow-up, we will continue to train some of the lifters who did not do well.

“For those lifters that had excellent performances, we also continue to monitor them to be fit,” he said.

Raphael Adefemi was awarded the best outstanding lifter from Lagos team.

Adefemi said he will continue to work hard to be the best in every Championship he will participate in.

“I feel great to be best lifter because in this championship. I worked hard and I put my best in every of my weight.

“I give God all the glory for this great success,” he said.

Adefemi said he would make the country proud in Commonwealth Championship next year.

“I need to continue to train more for the Commonwealth Games next year. The team and l will make Nigeria proud,” he said.

Rivers State command emerged the best female team and Lagos State the best male team.

The Nigeria Police Weightlifting Association, in collaboration with the Nigeria Wrestling Feederation (NWF), organised the maiden edition of IGP National Open Weightlifting Championship.

The championship, tagged ‘Abuja 2021’, which started on Nov. 8 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, ended on Friday, Nov. 12.
