Bendel Insurance feeder of Benin on Wednesday defeated Federal Medical Center (FMC) FC of Lokoja, 1-0 at the 2022 FA/Aiteo cup match played in Enugu State.

Eventus Towo scored the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute of the match played inside the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), field.

The win has qualified Benin Arsenal’s Jr to the round of 64 of the ongoing competition scheduled to be played on July 30 and 31 across the country.

At the female match, Kuda Queens FC of Kaduna walked over Great Super Stars FC of Akwa Ibom as they could not honor the match.

Speaking after the match, Bendel Insurance Jr Coach, Stanley Osazee, praised his players for their resilience in the game and playing to instruction.

According to him, the game is a beautiful one, especially the second half, because we could not get the game going in the first 45 minutes.

“These are young players and it is their first time playing at this level, so I am impressed with their performance.

“We will consolidate on this win, work on the lapses discovered in this game to do better in our next match,” he said.

Also, Coach Musa Abubakar of FMC Lokoja said his team lost the game due to hard luck.

“Actually, I could see it as hard luck, because the opponent never made many attempts that were technique to our goal post.

“They just had that chance from a dead ball situation and we lost concentration and that resulted in the goal.

“That is how football is, a little slip can cost you the whole game.

“We have a youthful team and that is a good thing for the future of Nigerian football as the players gain experience and exposure,” Abubakar said.
