The Small- Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria (SWOFON), said the association was ready for dry- season farming to enhance food production and boost the nation’s economy.

The FCT Coordinator, SWOFON, Mrs Comfort Sunday, made stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.

She said the clearing of lands and other farming activities were ongoing.

“We are preparing for the dry season farming, I am preparing for the cultivation of rice, and my fellow women farmers are also getting ready to plant other dry season crops.

“Some of us have already planted Ugu as well as other vegetables.You know with vegetables, you don’t have to wait for dry season before planting the seedlings,” she said.

The dry season farming in Nigeria starts from late October until late March.

Dry season crops include, rice, tomatoes, onions, watermelon carrots, Ugu, maize, eggplants, and cucumber among others.

The coordinator said that the association had lined up some advocacy programmes for the year.

The Coordinator, however, said the organisation would commence the programmes after the general elections.
