UNIJOS set to resume Monday

The University of Jos, Plateau state is set to resume on Monday June 7 following suspension of academic activities.

Timeline.ng had earlier reported that the institution was closed down for three weeks in the wake of security threats.

Announcing the new resumption date, the University's Registrar, Monday Dajem said it followed wide consultation of all stakeholders in the university, including Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments, the four staff unions ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Students’ Union Government (SUG).

Why was academic activities suspended?

The University's management ordered the closure of hostels in order to put in place adequate security around the hostels and the entire institution.

The measure became necessary after no fewer than four staff of UNIJOS were abducted from the university's quarters while the neighbouring communities of Gengere, Naraguta among others posed security threats to the institution.
