5 things you should know as Nigerian Idol Season 7 premieres sunday

All is set for the battle to crown the next music superstar in Nigeria as season 7 of the Nigerian Idol talent show premieres today (Sunday). Here are 5 things you need to know as the 7th season of the show takes off.

1. Journey to Season 7

The physical auditions for the seventh edition were held on December 4, 2021 at the Colossus Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Hopefuls from across Nigeria showed up at the venue to showcase their talent to the team of judges.

The physical audition, which was the last phase of the audition process for Nigerian Idol season 7, kicked off with registration and accreditation. After the registration process, each aspiring idol was led to the audition room and given 30 seconds to impress a team of selectors.

2. Host and Judges

Music legend and creative entrepreneur, Obi Asika is making his return as a judge on Nigerian Idol. He is joined by Nigerian Idol newbies, D’Banj and Simi, for the seventh season of the reality TV singing competition.

Entertainment Company and organisers of the reality TV singing competition, MultiChoice Nigeria say the judges bring decades' worth of experience in the music and entertainment business and individual mastery of their crafts.

Popular radio and TV personality, IK Osakioduwa will also be returning as the show’s host for this season.

3. Sponsors and Prizes

It was previously announced that the winner of the show will get a grand prize of N50 million. However, the prize was upped by N50 million as blockchain ecosystem provider, Binance joined headline sponsor Bigi Drinks as co-sponsor of the show.

Also, the winner of the competition would go home with a brand new car, a recording deal among other prizes.

4. Legacy

The reality singing competition has produced some of the biggest music acts in the country including Timi Dakolo and Omawumi (when it was referred to as Idols West Africa) and break-out gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. Kingdom Kroseide won last year’s edition.
