The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.- Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to carry out its constitutional mandate and task without compromising on the security of the country.
Yahaya stated this at the commissioning of the civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) road project in the Ka’oje area, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
“I want to express the commitment of the Nigerian Army to carry out our constitutional mandate and task without compromise.
“We appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for his untiring support and encouragement to the Nigerian Army by providing the necessary guidance and resources to carry out our constitutional mandate,” he said.
Yahaya said he was in Ka’oje for the commissioning of civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) road project, executed by Maj.-Gen. Nasiru Usman-Mukhtar, the Director Procurement Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
“The Nigerian army has been carrying out quick impactful projects through its CIMIC interventions to communities across the country in an effort to strengthen our relationship with our people.
“The projects are significant to Nigerian Army in our efforts to curtail the myriad of security challenges in the country, particularly through a non-kinetic approach.
“The COAS’ intervention on CIMIC projects was introduced to provide support to communities of serving senior army officers across the nation who through dedication, discipline, and commitment to duty and service to the nation have risen to the enviable rank of Major General,” he said.
Yahaya said that the one-kilometer road was commissioned in honor of Maj.-Gen. Nasiru Usman-Mukhtar in order to alleviate the hardship being faced by the people in the area.
“The projects, executed across the country include the construction of and rehabilitation of hospitals, schools, construction of community centers, the sinking of boreholes, and construction of roads, among others.
“In sustaining these laudable gestures and in line with my vision, I have approved the sustenance of special intervention of civil-military cooperation projects across the country,” he said.

The COAS thanked Gov. Atiku Bagudu, the district head of Ka’oje, Alhaji Usman Ka’oje, and the people of the area for the warm welcome and reception accorded to him and his entourage.
Earlier, Usman-Mukhtar thanked the COAS for the construction of the road in Ka’oje and for reconnecting him with his maternal home.
“Hitherto, the road was not passable due to erosion but the construction started on Jan. 10 and completed on Sept. 19, this year to the satisfaction of the host community,” he said.
Usman-Mukhtar urged the benefiting community to utilize the road in order to improve their agricultural activities in the area.
Also speaking, Gov. Bagudu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar-Yauri, commended the COAS and the Nigerian army for complementing the efforts of the state government in providing infrastructure facilities in the state.
“We thank the COAS and Nigerian army for complementing the efforts of the state government in providing the much-needed road infrastructure.
“We have to keep on thanking you for ensuring that our state remains peaceful in spite of the security challenges in some parts of the country,” he said.
Bagudu said his administration would continue to liaise with the military in its effort to tackle insecurity occasioned by bandit attacks.
“This administration will make sure it provides the military with whatever it needed to fight insecurity in Kebbi State,” he said.
The governor enjoined the community to reciprocate the military gesture by ensuring that the road is maintained and well utilized.
