The Lagos Sector Commander of, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, has commended the Corps Marshal, management, and Board for promoting over 6,000 officers across the country.

Ogungbemide said this during the decoration of newly promoted officers of RS2.1 Lagos Sector Command, held at the parade ground of FRSC, Ojodu, Lagos.
He appreciated the current management led by Corps Marshal Dauda Biu for promoting over 300 officers in Lagos.
“You can all see the mood of the promoted officers, very happy, which is also a reflection of what you are going to be seeing on the highways.
“Over 3,000 officers benefited from this promotion, and the management had also promoted over 3,000 Marshal across the country last week, which brought the total of all the promoted officers to over 6,000.
“You are going to be seeing motivated officers that will be relating with the members of the public with joy because of the promotion,” he said.
The commander said that in every establishment when one is being promoted, it adds value to that organization.
“Corps Marshal has given us a marching order on all the things that will need our intervention in ensuring drastic reduction on accidents caused by trucks and containers in the state.
” It is not just deploying the men at strategic points, it is about putting policies in place to stop the problem before getting to the highways.
“The current accidents by trucks and tankers is a child’s play to what would have happened if we had not put measures in place to curb the accidents by articulated vehicles.
“The policy was put in Lagos in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, Nigeria Ports Authority, and other transport stakeholders,” Ogungbemide said.
He said Nigerians should be expecting smooth movement and more committed officers to ensure that the roads are safer for them.
The Lagos Sector Commander said their officers could not achieve much without the support of the public, urging the road users to continue to support them in achieving their mandate.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Lagos, Mr. Abdulafiz Toriola, congratulated the promoted officers and charged them to discharge their duties with more commitment.
Toriola said that the State Government was considering implementing the use of designated routes for articulated vehicles.

He said this was one of the strategies to checkmate the operations and activities of trucks plying the State roads.

Toriola said that the Government did not want to take unilateral decisions, hence, it called for a Stakeholders’ engagement to dialogue with relevant unions before taking necessary steps.

The Permanent Secretary also mentioned that the ministry was reviewing the Minimum Safety Standard Procedure (SSP) for trucks and articulated vehicles being implemented by the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA).

He said that modifying it would involve including the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials in the inspection process.

Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, the Superintendent Route Commander, Olabisi Sonusi appreciated the Corps Marshal and his management team for considering them for the .exercise.

Sonusi said that they would put in more effort in ensuring the road was safer, while lives and properties were protected.

She said they would double efforts in educating the motoring public on the importance of obeying the safety standard while moving from one place to the other.

Deputy Corps Commander, Joshua Abitomi, pleaded with other officers that were not promoted not to give up.
