Esama of Benin Daughter, Hon. Omosede May Dumps PDP Soon ... Criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki leadership style

Following the recent development in the political landscape of Edo State, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, a former governorship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ex-member of the House of Representatives, has voiced her reservations regarding the qualities of the gubernatorial candidate chosen in the PDP primary election.

Igbinedion emphasised the need for a candidate who upholds principles of equity, fairness, and justice, while demonstrating humility and a deep understanding of the people's concerns.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Igbinedion highlighted the importance of a candidate who recognises that leadership is a divine mandate and values the input of others, rather than adopting a dictatorial approach.

She stressed the significance of sincerity, genuine concern for the welfare of Edo State, and a strong connection with the people as essential qualities for the next governor.

In her words, "I will support a Governorship candidate that believes in equity, fairness and justice, one with true humility, that understands the plight of the people. A candidate that believes that it is only God that can put him at Osadebe Avenue. A candidate who listens and does not think he knows it all.

A candidate that is sincere at heart and does not see Edo as a business venture. A candidate who knows Edo as his home and genuinely relates with his people. A candidate who has respect for his fellow aspirants, a candidate who knows that women deserve a seat at the table. A candidate that believes the youth should be carried along, not just as cheerleaders, but holding positions of authority.

A candidate that will patronise indigenous contractors and stand for the betterment of our State and its people."

Furthermore, Igbinedion criticized the leadership style of Governor Godwin Obaseki, citing concerns about his lack of fairness, equity, and justice in governing Edo State and leading the PDP.

She expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs within the party, suggesting that unity and justice have been compromised under Obaseki's leadership.

Igbinedion's remarks have underscored the growing discontent within the PDP and signaled potential challenges for the party's gubernatorial candidate and his running mate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and Barr Osarodion Ogie respectively.

In light of the ongoing defections from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, the path to victory for Senator Monday Okpebholo in the upcoming election on September 21st appears increasingly favourable.

As the political landscape in Edo State continues to evolve, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion's vocal stance serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding democratic values and principles of good governance in the quest for a better future for the people of Edo State.
