6th NYG: Organisers apologise for shortcomings, fix Oct. 13 as arrival date

The Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the 6th National Youth Games (NYG) holding in Ilorin, the Kwara capital, has enjoined participating states, who are yet to arrive the venue of the games, to do so on or before Wednesday, Oct. 13.

This was one of the resolutions reached at a meeting of the MOC, the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and the Directors of sports Forum, convened to chart the way forward for the games that was earlier scheduled for Oct. 10 – 19 at the same venue.

The meeting also resolved that the screening of athletes would hold on Thursday, Oct. 14 by 8.am at the Sports Unit university gymnasium.

On the shortcomings that may have been experienced by various contingents to this year’s games, the meeting apologised in a joint statement signed by the Chairman MOC, Alhaji Bode Durotoye and Chairman, Nigeria Directors of Sports Forum, Bashari Maizare.

The statement further said that the opening ceremony will now hold on Friday, Oct. 15, with all games expected to hold as scheduled.

They commended the sports minister Sunday Dare for his swift intervention, the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Abdulkareem Age and the Rector, Kwara state Polytechnic, Dr Jimoh Muhammed, for their support and understanding.
