Ifedayo Akindoju, the President of Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), on Friday in Abuja said the Federation would soon host two wheelchair tennis competitions.
Akindoju told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) the competitions would be staged in Lagos from Nov. 7 to Nov. 10 and Benin city from Dec. 1 to Dec. 4.
“The Lagos event is the VEMP Wheelchair National Tennis Open Championship, while the Benin event is the Exquisite Wheelchair Tennis South-South Closed,” he said.
The NTF President said this would be the first time the Federation would be hosting two maiden editions of wheelchair tennis events in Nigeria.
“This is the first time it is happening in Nigeria and it is a good initiative and a good start for the Federation after its board’s inauguration earlier this month,” he added.
Akindoju disclosed that the events would involve competitions in both the male and female singles categories.
“The doubles categories for men’s doubles and women’s doubles are also events to be staged,” he said.
The NTF President said the VEMP Wheelchair National Tennis Open Championship would be bankrolled by VEMP Limited.
“VEMP Limited now have both the VEMP National Tennis Open Championship which will hold in Abuja from Nov. 4 to Nov 13 and the VEMP Wheelchair National Tennis Open Championship in Lagos from Nov.7 to Nov.10.
”This is a welcome initiative to the development of tennis and the NTF,” he said.
